| "In Lower Saxony, between Hildesheim and Einbeck on the River Leine, lies the village of Freden, with a historic town centre and a restored 18th century barn, the acoustic properties of which – as this recording shows – are extraordinary. Since 1991 the International Freden Music Festival has been held here. The most famous names that travel around to all the festivals have deliberately been avoided. Instead, young, unknown artists are given preference. But the recordings of the String Sextet by Tchaikovsky and the Octet by Mendelssohn are more than the selling point of a rural music festival. The organiser Adrian Adlam, co-founder of Freden Music Festival, has gathered a crowd of gifted musicians, members of famous orchestras, who all share an interest in chamber music. In studio surroundings they know how to recreate the atmosphere of a live performance.
