| In her second album released by naive, the Ukrainian pianist Valentina Lisitsa, a recent addition to the label, juxtaposes two major works of the repertoire composed in 1908, exploring all the resources of a playing style both virtuosic and profound: Ravel's Gaspard de la Nuit and Rachmaninoff's first sonata. The nickname "Queen of Rachmaninoff" – also the name of her recording imprint – suggests just how thoroughly Valentina has mastered the virtuosic compositions that make up the core of her repertoire, by her favourite composer but also by Mussorgsky, Beethoven, Liszt, Tchaikovsky, Scriabin and Ravel.
