In the Americas, many languages are spoken: native, Romance, Germanic. Their horizon is immeasurable, their history mystic and mysterious. Each of their peoples have an identity, an origin, a destiny. Everything is di erent, varied, and contradictory. Yet, among such diversity, one feature de nes and uni es this continent, distinguishing it from the others: its music. There are many reasons why music of the Americas is representative of the entire continent, especially in modern times. When Spain invaded the Americas at the end of the 15th century, pre-Columbian civilizations already had their own distinctive musical language, characterized predominantly by rituals. The imposing presence of the Spanish and Portuguese Empires in what is known as Latin America today, the African slave trade, and the tribal typology of the indigenous peoples who lived on this territory established musical unity that extended from Mexico to modern-day Argentine and Chilean Patagonia. The folklore of this vast region originated, established itself, and expanded in a uniform way, creating rhythms and forms that are part of the same musical heritage, albeit with some di erences. Later on, modern-day North America became the birthplace of jazz, a musical style that was strongly in uenced by black culture and had a profound impact on the folklore styles of South America, especially Brazil. Today, the Americas have a distinct musical identity formed by many di erent styles, which are nonetheless seen as di erent shades of the same language. Their music is produced and heard all over the American continent. La Chimera's focus this time is on an emblematic region that bears witness to the aforesaid legacy, originally composed of Guarani and Inca territories, later dominated by the Jesuits, and nowadays known as Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, Chile, and Argentina. 'Thanks to Life"", a title borrowed from the famous song by the Chilean composer Violeta Parra, is a homage to the music of these peoples through an 'imaginary folklore"" that covers and travels through the various musical periods of this region: pre-Columbian music, colonial music, modern-day folk music; Violeta Parra, Mercedes Sosa, Atahualpa Yupanqui, Ariel Ramírez, and others... 1.
